Using ubiquitous orange construction fencing to wrap the trunks of three red oak trees in front of the Belkin Gallery, this work addresses the history of Main Mall, UBC and the intertwining of landscape and the built environment. Counter to its usual use, the fencing takes on the the organic form of the trees themselves. The different sizes and ages of the trees speak to various histories and replanting that have occurred since Main Mall was first lined with red oaks in 1927 - some trees have been removed for safety concerns, some have died off and others have been felled by wind storms. The three trees show a chronology of approximately 80 years.
